Parent Committee Volunteer Positions:

Friends of AEA MS Parent Representative (1-2 volunteers/Chair & Co-Chair; 2-year commitment)

  • Leadership and liaison between the parents and MS teachers through the MS Parent Committee – to give thanks to AEA staff and take care of the needs for our school, and plan and hear new ideas to improve this communication.
  • Create events with the help of other parents and students, manage budgets from school and donations, and organizing prizes and presents for our school staff. Prior year documentation is available for reference.
  • Conduct monthly MS Parent Committee meetings, typically held directly before Pastries with Principals meetings on campus.
  • Position on the FOAEA foundation Board of Directors with voting rights and involvement in AEA school wide events and fundraising. Attend monthly Friends of AEA Board meetings, usually held the first Thursday evening of each month (this can be alternated if this a shared position).
MS Parent Communications

  • Send out any communication necessary to the MS parent community re. school activities needing parent involvement, volunteers, or donations.
  • Distro email messages from MS Parent Committee re. Fundraising, Teacher Wish List, Used Uniform Sales, Parent Ambassadors, 8th Grade Graduation, etc. and post to Einstein MS Parents Facebook Group page (verbiage is usually provided for you).
  • Assist FOAEA MS Parent Rep in planning for MS Parent Committee activities.
  • Take notes at monthly MS Parent Committee meetings, as well as Pastries with Principals and distribute to parent community via email and Facebook group.
  • Regularly update AEACMS webmaster with content for MS Parent Committee webpage, including Committee meeting minutes.

MS Parent Ambassador Program Coordinator (1-2 volunteers)

  • Call out for Parent Volunteers in Spring 2016 to serve as Ambassadors to new AEA families starting at AEA in Fall 2016. As a type of welcome committee, the Ambassadors serve in the true IB way to welcome new families to the AEA community! 🙂
  • Work with MS school administration to obtain list of new families and their pertinent data.
  • Match Ambassadors to new families (Prior year documentation is available for reference).
  • Communicate as necessary to Ambassadors their assignments and encourage meeting new families at a school event such as Welcome Back BBQ or Orientation.
MS Teacher Wish List Coordinator

  • Send a notice to school administration to disseminate to teachers at the beginning of the school year re the wish list.
  • Teachers email their needs throughout the year.
  • Immediately add the items to the SignUpGenius wish list.
  • Draft notices and reminders to parents to be sent via MS Parent Communications and FOAEA newsletters asap.
  • Communicate with parents and teachers re status of supply donations and generally facilitate the process as needed throughout the year.
MS Used Uniform Sale Coordinator (1-2 volunteers)

  • Sort through the clothing donation piles occasionally throughout the year to organize them for the school’s use as loaners, as well as weed out unsellable items from sellable ones.
  • Take home and wash items that may be salvageable.
  • Donate anything too soiled, worn or not up to dress code.
  • Hold sales when parents will already be at the school e.g., orientations, art and science nights.
  • Coordinate the event with school, send out notices and reminders to parents via MS Parent Communications and FOAEA newsletter.
  • Organize and run the sales.
MS Staff Birthday Coordinator (1-2 volunteers)

  • Obtain list of current year staff and birthdays as early in the year as possible from school administration.
  • Request budget allotment from MS Parent Committee for gifts and/or supplies, purchase and distribute to teachers monthly.
  • If desired, simple cards and decor can be added at coordinator and budget discretion for fun/creative presentation of gifts.
